Dubai school raises tuition fee by 90%

In these times of economic uncertainty, Dubai Modern High School has increased the tuition costs by an enormous 90%. This hike comes about with its move to a new campus.

To compare the costs, the tuition fee for grades KG I and KG II, for the academic year 2008 – 09  was AED 14,094, for 2009 – 10 jumped to AED 20,430, and for 2010 – 11 will be AED 29,620. These hikes do not include books, transportation, etc.

The parents are obviously furious over the move. Have you been faced with any sudden rise in education costs?

Young expat population on the decline in Dubai?

According a news report, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce  and Industry (DCCI) has found that the population of Dubai residents aged 10-19 is ‘unsually low’. This has been attributed to the steep rise in school fees over the last year, leaving many expats no choice but to send their children back home for schooling.

It is reported that the cost of secondary education rose by 25.2% and primary education by 18.7% in 2008 alone. This is a huge jump in expenses and with no significant rise in pay, many expatriates are finding it difficult to cope.

Do you know anyone who had to make the tough decision of sending their family home?

The first JESS school was founded in September 1975 and the school has built a reputation as one of the finest British curriculum primary schools.

From September 2005 at the Arabian Ranches development, JESS opened an additional three form entry primary school from Foundation through to Year 6, together with a six form entry secondary school, initially for Years 7, 8 and 9.  The secondary school will then offer a complete Key Stage 3 phase (Years 7 to 9) in September 2006 and commence Year 10 in September 2007.
